Lisbon Castle With
Great Views Over The City
Castelo de S. Jorge
Open to the public 7 days a week, S. Jorge Castle is a place where you can get to know and enjoy a lot of Lisbon's history in the Permanent Exhibition, explore the remains of the 11th century Islamic quarter in the Archaeological Site or discover new sights of the city in the Dark Chamber. Or you might choose to stroll through the gardens and viewpoints, take a break in Café do Castelo, take part in guided tours or other educational activities or simply let yourself be enchanted by music, theatre, dance and lectures that take place in this remarkable Monument of Lisbon.
The landscape garden of S. Jorge Castle is today the only green space in Lisbon where you can find the main native species of the Portuguese forest, such as cork oaks, carob trees, arbutus, pines and some fruit trees. Colourful peacocks stroll lazily around the garden.
In the Camera Obscura - The darkroom with an optical system of lenses and mirrors allows you to observe the city in real time, its monuments and most emblematic areas, the river and the bustle of Lisbon, in a 360º look.
